Tech & Learning magazine today named Spiral Universe as one of education technology's best new products winning their 2010 Award of Excellence.

A panel of more than 30 educators, who tested more than 140 entries, chose the winners. Products were also carefully screened by the T&L editorial team and all entries were given a rigorous test-driving by qualified educators through several rounds of judging. Evaluation criteria included the following: quality and effectiveness, ease of use, creative use of technology, and suitability for use in an educational environment. With a solid reputation in the industry as a long-standing, high-quality program, the Awards of Excellence recognizes both the "best of the best" and creative new offerings that help educators in the business of teaching, training and managing with technology.

Three months ago we celebrated the 50th country in which Spiral has customers. Every company hopes to create a successful product, but we surprised ourselves by growing so fast in all parts of the world. Needless to say, as the number of countries sprinted past 50 and all the way to 100 in the following 90 days, our surprise turned into astonishment.

Celebrations aside, we feel even more responsibility for quickly improving the system to meet the expectations of our users from around the world.

Spiral adds Arabic support

We are proud to announce support for the Arabic language has been released in our Spiral application. It is already being used by schools in Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Yemen. Our UI developers and QA team worked closely with Mohamed, our Arabic translator and account representative, to ensure that the text and interface look professional and appropriate for native Arabic speakers.

Arabic support can be tricky for software originally designed for Western languages which flow from left to right. Many software companies cut corners and simply reverse the text direction without adjusting the window designs and placements, but we are committed to providing a complete experience. It took much more time and effort to do the proper job, but we felt it was important to show our respect for our Arabic-speaking users. The webtop looks and feels very different in right-to-left, but this is exactly what an Arabic speaker will expect. This investment in internationalization technology will also pay off as we are adding support for Hebrew and Urdu, two other right-to-left languages we are working on.

If you speak Arabic in your school or at home, please let us know what you think.
